Media Release

In Coffs Harbour on the 9th of October John gave this press release to the local paper:

John Garner Bookcrafts has done it again!! At a small gathering of photographers in Coffs Harbour Australia, John released his latest creations in the Top of the Range Wedding and Portrait albums.

The first is The ATHERTON which is a drop in matt system using picture framing matt board with the opening bevel cut and the 14x11 print dropped under it. The matt and picture are surrounded by a 1" frame of the same matt material. All pages are bound together with a leather cover and unusual embedded lettering on the front and raised lettering on the spine (optional). John thanks Peter Atherton, a Californian Photographer who sketched the idea in conjunction with John. This was done over two years ago but was not able to get off the ground and reach fruition until this week, just in time for John's tour of the Eastern US states.

The biggest mind-blower of the day is The ADDISON. John has started naming his albums in honour of the people who inspire and help create them. In developing an idea of blending the traditional matted style with the modern magazine style of album, John spoke to Lindsay and Kym Addisn to design this new album. It began as a magazine style album with inset photos. We then cut out the inset photo and get it printed on metallic paper. The background (original page we started with) is printed on Lustre as a magazine stlye book. This is then bevel cut in the place of the inset. Once the book is finished, the metallic sheets were slipped in through an opening and sealed into the book. It looks astounding and is rounded out with one of Bookcrafts many fine covers, this one in particular is a corrugated metal-like cover.

These books are so hot out of the Bookcrafts workshop that pictures for the website won't be up until John returns from his trip to the States.

The Coffs Harbour seminar was organised by local Portrait and Landscape artist photographer, Toni Fuller (from Tones Photography) and attendees were overwhelmed by the display of handbound books by Bookcrafts. All could see why John is so popular with photographers all over the world. He creates to the photographers needs and promises to conduct a similar tour for Australian photographers in 2006 to celebrate 100 years of this original bookbinding business.
